Help-a-Mom Be-a-Mom
by Larry A. Rosenmann
The Help-A-Mom-Be-A-Mom campaign was developed by the Alpha Pregnancy
Care center to raise community awareness about the work that we do.
The campaign also does raise some
funds, but this really is a secondary purpose. The campaign is timed
to coincide with Mother's
Day. This timing reinforces the message that what we do has very
little with being anti-abortion
and far more with our being concerned for the plight of a young mother
who has found herself in a difficult situation.
By focusing on the positive aspects of our work (we help pregnant
women with material needs, we provide training and education, we help women
make responsible decisions etc.) we
are turning the debate away from the idea of "choice" and back on to
the fact that women in
crisis pregnancy need our help.
Some of the things we have used in this campaign include:
- A resolution by our state legislature naming the month before
Mother's day as a time to
support Alpha Center as we Help-a-Mom Be-a-Mom. (Contact a pro life
legislature for details on how to do this.)
- Distribution (sale) of buttons at churches for people to wear as
they go out into the world to
spread the word.
- Posters and collection canisters at stores in the area.
- Radio spots about the campaign.
- Special events at stores or shopping malls with the Help-a-Mom
theme.
There are lots of things that can be done with this. The trick is to
capture Mother's Day as a time
for the community to support moms by supporting a local crisis
pregnancy center.
Those wishing to use this idea to support a local crisis pregnancy
center have our complete
permission to do so. Please let us know how it has worked out for
you.
