This is a six-week old embryo. Sadly, the pregnancy was ectopic (that is, the baby had implanted in the Fallopian tube instead of in the womb), and, given present medical technology, there was no way he could survive. He was removed from the tube to save the mother's life. This photo was taken during his last minutes of life.Under normal circumstances, at this stage the mother would not yet have missed her second menstrual period. She may not be sure she's pregnant.
