Abortions in Poland| Pregnant Pause Home | Statistics | Search this site |
Shortly after the communist government was overthrown, the new, democratically-elected government passed a new law which severely restricted abortion. This law was supported by President Lech Walesa, the clergy, and the Polish medical community.
Note that the number of maternal deaths (which includes all women listed as dying during pregnancy or delivery) dropped along with the abortion rate. This is empirical evidence that legal abortion does not save women's lives.
No Polish jokes here.
