Among CDF policies which are presumably intended to defend children are opposition to the proposed $500 per child tax credit and opposition to any restrictions on abortion, including the ban on partial-birth abortions. The Children's Defense Fund would not support efforts to make adoption easier, and is leading the coalition against the proposed Parental Rights Act.
Other organizations that joined CDF in the "Stand For Children" rally are Planned Parenthood, the nation's leading provider of abortions; Zero Population Growth, which is founded on the principle that there are already too many people in the world so children are undesirable and dangerous; the Drug Policy Foundation, which promotes legalization of drugs; and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund and Human (Gay) Rights Campaign, whose idea of "defending children" is somewhat unusual.
CDF conducted an excellent marketing drive to sell this rally to more mainstream organizations, like Big Brothers and church groups, many of whom probably have little idea of the policies being pursued by the organizers.
